Who We Are

Life atop Crow Mountain

"Get a Farm they said…." At AR Farm, nestled atop a serene mountaintop in North East Alabama, we are crafting our dream of sustainable living and self-sufficiency.

Led by "Doc" Hewett and his wife "Red," our journey began with a vision to harmonize with nature while building a thriving agricultural enterprise. Our farm is not just a business — it's a reflection of our values and aspirations.

Currently our focus is on raising a variety of animals and implementing forestry practices for Silvo-pasture, blending forestry with pastureland to enhance biodiversity and productivity. Every day on this mountain teaches us something new.

What We Raise

Laying Hens

Our hens roam freely and reward us with fresh eggs for the breakfast table and, soon, local markets.

Foraging Goats

Our goats are the farm's best land-management tool — natural, low-maintenance, and remarkably effective at clearing and keeping our acreage open and productive.

Kune Kune Pigs

We still keep a small number of these friendly heritage pigs as part of our diverse farm ecosystem.

High Tunnel Hoophouse

We're building a 30′ × 72′ Nifty Hoops high tunnel to extend our growing seasons. Using in-ground drip irrigation, we'll grow through the shoulder seasons and beyond — learning and improving with every harvest.

Our Vision

Growing Toward Self-Sufficiency

Our goal is clear: complete self-sufficiency and, ultimately, early retirement from the traditional workforce. We envision a future where AR Farm provides for all our needs — from food to fuel — while we live in harmony with the land we steward.

Central to that vision is Silvo-pasture — the practice of integrating trees with pastureland. This approach enhances biodiversity, improves soil health, provides shade and forage for our animals, and sequesters carbon along the way.

Every harvest tells a story of resilience, innovation, and love for this corner of Crow Mountain.
