“Get a Farm they said….”
At AR Farm, nestled atop a serene mountaintop in North East Alabama, we are crafting our dream of sustainable living and self-sufficiency. Led by “Doc” Hewett and his wife “Red”, our journey began with a vision to harmonize with nature while building a thriving agricultural enterprise.
Our farm is not just a business; it’s a reflection of our values and aspirations. Currently, our focus is on raising a variety of animals and implementing forestry practices for Silvo-pasture, blending forestry with pastureland to enhance biodiversity and productivity.
Our livestock are the heart of our operation. We raise laying hens, whose fresh eggs grace our breakfast tables and hopefully soon local markets. Our Alpine goats will provide milk for our family and artisanal cheese production. Additionally, we employ foraging goats for land clearing, utilizing their natural grazing instincts to manage vegetation sustainably.
In our commitment to preserving heritage breeds and fostering biodiversity, we also raise registered Kune Kune pigs. These charismatic pigs not only contribute to our farm’s ecosystem but also represent our dedication to heritage conservation.
Looking ahead, our goal is clear: complete self-sufficiency and achieve early retirement from the workforce. We envision a future where our farm provides for all our needs, from food to fuel, while allowing us to live in harmony with the land we steward.
Join us on our journey towards a simpler, more sustainable way of life at AR Farm, where every harvest tells a story of resilience, innovation, and love for the land.
